-How does the bbc please the audience? -Who are they? How is BBC 1 breakfast show reaching, targeting and engaging audience interaction? The BBC radio 1 breakfast show targets the younger audience of the age 15-29. The main aim is to engage a broad range of young people with entertainment, celebrity interview and engagement with the audience. In recent years, this target has proven increasingly challenging due to the steep decline in young listeners as new and entertainment is easily accessed and spread over social media networks. The young audience is far more interested in immediate updates and regular news interaction and celebrity gossip that the fall in radio audience has decreased. However, with this in mind, the BBC has taken steps towards increasing this decline through many subtle changes in radio toady. Charity adverts are influenced largely by social and cultural contexts. These cultural factors are used in a way to shock the audience but also make them aware of other lifestyles and differences they perhaps might not have been aware of. The use of perhaps typically less fortunate societies in advertising distances but also in a way makes the audience feel as though they have power over these victims to help and improve their way of living. Figure 3, shows the three charity adverts produced by the company shelter. The three adverts show faces of similar ethnicities, classes and ages, all facing different problems within the same field. The point of this is to show how anyone no matter their class can be affected by these issue, not just people of lower classes. Gender Performativity Judith butler is an american philosopher whose somewhat controversial theory's of gender and sex have influenced many different parts of society. Judith's theory suggests that the typical role of 'gender' has been imposed upon a person from the moment they are born, in a way that shapes a persons future as that person. Her belief is that through society, gender is portrayed in certain ways that if demolished would create a much more diverse and modern world. Over time, the media has forced stereotypes through color and materialism eg. the color blue typically represents a 'boy' and the color pink therefore 'female', forcing a child to believe that as a result of their biological structure they must conform to these naive and outdated unspoken rules.
